My name is Kate. I’m a mum of 2 and live a relatively quiet life. I, like you, have watched story after story and read article after article sharing the horrific and increasing occurrences of domestic violence.
According to the Domestic Violence Prevention Centre Gold Coast Inc, just under half a million women reported that they had experienced physical or sexual violence or sexual assault in the past 12 months. I can’t imagine how many more have been suffering in silence.
As I write this, a news story is describing another tragic loss of life today. The 62nd this year.
This has to stop. Enough is enough.
I don’t have all the answers, I just want to help. I have teamed up with a wonderful local organisation called My Friend’s Place, a not for profit organisation that provides affordable short-term and emergency accommodation for women who are experiencing homelessness as a result of violence or abuse.
The goal of The Hand Up Donation Drive is to provide donated goods and vouchers to the women at My Friend’s Place, to help them begin a safer new life. Donated funds will be directed to the opening of a another much needed refuge.
Please click here to read the letter from My Friend’s Place authorising me to conduct The Hand Up Donation Drive. You can also click here to visit their website for more information on the amazing work they do.
Click on the “How Can I Help?” page for more information on donations and for if you’re a local business wishing to help, please click on the “Are you a local business?” page.
I can’t tell you how grateful I am for your support and I know that these women will be ever so appreciative of the kindness of strangers.
Let’s make this happen for them.
